About this Unit

This wound care microcredential aims to provide support workers with the essential skills and knowledge regarding different types of wounds. This information will assist support workers to recognise wounds which require review and be able to identify and report common wound complications.

The trainer will discuss how to recognise those at risk of developing a pressure injury and implement appropriate prevention and/or management strategies. Students will learn about the risk factors associated with pressure injury development, the classification stages of pressure injuries, common strategies to prevent pressure injury development and how to manage pressure injuries.

This complex care training is competency based. To receive a Statement of Competence, participants must satisfactorily complete an assessment of knowledge and skills. This course is consistent with the NDIS High Intensity Support Skills Descriptor for Complex Wound Care Support.

Our Program

We select our Premium Health trainers and assessors carefully. All are nurses with appropriate qualifications, technical expertise and experience in the health care, emergency first aid and education sectors. This enables them to provide you with quality training which is grounded in direct experience and knowledge of the field.

Premium Health offers both face-to-face delivery and online live training and assessment. Courses are available onsite at your venue, online Australia wide or at our public course venue.

Delivery ModeYou can choose from the following training options: 2 hours and 30 minutes of live online training with a knowledge test, 3 hours of live online training that includes both a knowledge and skills test, or 2 hours and 30 minutes of in-person training with both a knowledge and skills test.
Learning ObjectivesThe learning objectives for all delivery options include gaining basic knowledge of the skin's structure and function, recognizing strategies to minimize pressure injuries, outlining risk factors for developing pressure injuries, explaining the differences between simple, acute, complex, and chronic wounds, and listing some causes of impaired wound healing. For delivery options 2 and 3, an additional objective is to demonstrate the correct aseptic technique for a wound dressing in a simulated environment.
QualificationsThe qualifications for each training option are as follows: For Option 1, you will receive a Statement of Completion after 2 hours and 30 minutes of live online training and a knowledge test. For Option 2, you will get a Statement of Competence after 3 hours of live online training that includes both a knowledge and skills test. For Option 3, you will earn a Statement of Competence after 2 hours and 30 minutes of face-to-face training with both a knowledge and skills test.
