About this Unit
This training aims to develop the essential knowledge and skills required for a support worker to recognise those at risk of developing a pressure injury and implement appropriate prevention and/or management strategies.
Our Program
We select our Premium Health trainers and assessors carefully. All are nurses or paramedics with appropriate qualifications, technical expertise and experience in the health care, emergency first aid and education sectors. This enables them to provide you with quality training which is grounded in experience and knowledge of the field.
Some of the topics include:
- understanding the structure of the skin and underlying tissue
- discussing the factors that increase the risk of pressure injuries
- outlining the body areas most at risk of pressure injury development
- describing the 6 stages of pressure injuries
- explaining strategies which can be implemented to reduce the risk or development of pressure injuries including skin risk assessment such as Braden Scale
- explaining the main methods of pressure injury wound care
- assessment and prevention strategies to reduce the risk of pressure injuries

Delivery Mode | The training options are: 2 hours and 30 minutes of live online training with knowledge assessment, and 2 hours and 30 minutes of face-to-face training with assessment. |
Learning Objectives | In the face-to-face mode, participants will use the Braden Scale for skin risk assessment, understand appropriate infection control precautions, describe strategies to help minimize pressure injuries, and outline the risk factors for developing a pressure injury. |
Prerequisites | The training options are: "Pressure Care and Prevention for Support Workers: Live Online Training and Knowledge Assessment" and "Pressure Care and Prevention for Support Workers: Face-to-Face Training and Assessment." |
