About this Unit
Support workers have an important part to play in assisting clients with high intensity daily personal support required when living with diabetes. This microcredential develops the knowledge to understand the types of diabetes and their medical management. Common diabetic emergencies, medications, complications of diabetes and strategies for management of diabetes including lifestyle measures are discussed. Participants will practice and demonstrate the skill of blood glucose testing and recording.
The training is competency based. To receive a Statement of Competence, participants must satisfactorily complete an assessment of knowledge and skills.
Our Program
We select our Premium Health trainers and assessors carefully. All are nurses with appropriate qualifications, technical expertise and experience in the health care, emergency first aid and education sectors. This enables them to provide you with quality training which is grounded in direct experience and knowledge of the field.
Premium Health offers both face-to-face delivery and online live training and assessment. Courses are available onsite at your venue, online Australia wide or at our public course venue.

| Learning Objectives | In Option 2, participants will demonstrate infection control procedures and blood glucose testing. They will also learn about the difference between hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). |
| Qualifications | Option 1 offers Diabetes for Support Workers training with live online training and a knowledge assessment, resulting in a Statement of Completion. Option 2 provides face-to-face training and assessment, resulting in a Statement of Competence. |
