Dysphagia Support Training
Dysphagia Support Training
About this Unit
People with dysphagia have trouble swallowing and have special support and care needs. This microcredential is designed for support workers to develop the essential knowledge and skills to assist participants with high intensity daily personal activity (HIDPA) support for dysphagia. This complex care training includes assisting with the safe ingesting of food, beverages and medicines and understanding the use of a texture-modified diet and consistency modified fluids. The program will also discuss recognising and taking appropriate first aid action for a participant who is choking.
The training is competency based. To receive a Statement of Competence participants must satisfactorily undertake an assessment of knowledge and skills. This course is consistent with the NDIS High Intensity Support Skills Descriptor for Dysphagia Support.
